Your Yoga Teacher Training in Goa Ends. The Footage Is What Comes Home.

You will fly home from your teacher training in Goa with a certificate, a group photo on the beach, and several hundred pictures on your phone that look a great deal like everybody else's several hundred pictures. That is not a problem with your phone. It is a scheduling problem. The shala, the light coming through it, and the palms behind it exist for the few weeks you are here — and then they do not.

Every newly certified teacher's feed looks the same

Scroll the accounts of people who finished a 200-hour course this year and you will see the same four things: the certificate held up to camera, the cohort sitting cross-legged in a row, a handstand attempt at sunset, and a close-up of somebody's mala. All of it shot from a fixed point, by a friend, on a phone.

None of that is bad content. It is just content that anyone on your course can produce, which means it does nothing to separate you from the twenty other people who trained beside you and are now also looking for their first classes to teach.

The one shot nobody comes home with

An FPV drone is a small aircraft flown manually, by hand, through goggles — not a camera hovering on autopilot. That is what makes a single unbroken move possible: in through the doorway of a shala, around you while you are mid-flow, and back out over the treeline, with no cuts and nothing stitched together afterwards.

What "one-take" actually changes

A cut tells the viewer they are watching a video. An unbroken take does not give them that moment. The camera keeps travelling, the space keeps unfolding, and what the viewer is left with is the feeling of having been in the room — which is a very different thing from having seen a photograph of the room.

Why it is rare

Flying this close to people, walls and doorways with control takes months of practice before the footage is usable, and it needs a different aircraft from the one most photographers own. That is the entire reason this shot is uncommon. It is not a filter or a setting — it is a skill someone has to fly.

Why filming it here matters more than filming it later

You can shoot a reel in your home studio any week of the year. What you cannot do, once you have landed back in Lisbon or Berlin or Melbourne, is shoot one in the place you actually trained.

Where you did your training is part of how you will introduce yourself as a teacher for years. Most people evidence that with a certificate graphic. Footage of you practising in an open-air shala in Goa evidences it in a way a certificate cannot, and it keeps working long after the course is a line on your bio.

Go further than the beach

Goa has beaches and a beach shot is perfectly fine. It is also what almost everyone comes home with, and a crowded shoreline in February looks a great deal like a crowded shoreline anywhere else that is warm in February.

The parts of Goa that actually look like Goa tend to be quieter. Laterite walls. A courtyard behind a house. A village road under palms. The backwaters inland from Siolim. Open ground at the end of the monsoon. Any of those places your practice somewhere specific in a way that sand does not.

Which of them is usable on the day is a practical question rather than an aesthetic one. Access, light, weather and where a drone may legally be flown all narrow the list — and those get checked before a shoot rather than discovered during one.

What it costs, and why a cohort is the sensible way to do it

Pricing starts at ₹3,000 per video and moves with the type of shot, the location and how much editing it needs — so it gets scoped with you before a number is quoted, rather than after.

The practical point for a training group: shooting as a group brings the cost per person down. A cohort booking one session together is a far more sensible arrangement than one person booking alone in their last week, and it means everybody leaves with their own footage rather than everybody appearing in one shared video.

Planning it around your course

• Do not leave it to your final week — your course schedule and the weather both get a vote, and the last week has the least room to move
• Pick a flow you can repeat comfortably several times; a familiar sequence films better than one you are straining through
• Wear what you would actually teach in, not what photographs well once
• Decide beforehand whether you want vertical framing for Reels, horizontal, or both
• Say early where you would like to shoot — access and drone rules decide whether a location is usable, and that is better established in advance than on the morning
• If your school has its own photographer coming, this sits alongside them rather than instead of them
